When I was kid i used to always look for my mum and friends in the crowd whilst on the stage and once i hit about the age of 12 i realised that it made my performance weak so i have learnt to not look at the audience.
I tend to fix a spot on the back wall and look at that because if i see a friend or family member it puts me off and i loose focus easily the moment i see them so by looking at the wall it helps keep me in focus and not loose where i am. I try to stay in the moment of the song, with everything i do in order for me to perform at my best i have to have a charater because with every dance i am telling a story and i can convey what ever that story may be without a charater and acting. acting comes hand in hand with dancing and it helps get across the intent with the audience and i cannot perform on stage without acting so that helps me stay in focus because if i do see a friend or family member i am acting as somebody else who wouldnt know them so i pretend like they are just strangers to me.
The performance is the very thing that we spend so long working towords so to not put on a wonderful performance would be a crime.
